Pannonian Getaway
The one-day excursion will take us to the autonomous province of Vojvodina in Northern Serbia, where one million years ago the Pannonian Sea was located and which now makes up a part of the Pannonian Basin. This region is famous for its multiculturalism, flat green landscape, salaš (traditional farm in Vojvodina), and wines from autochthonous grape varieties such as Grašac and Župljanka. We will visit Vojvodina’s capital and Serbia’s second-largest city Novi Sad, the 2019 European Youth Capital and the 2022 European Capital of Culture. The next stop will be the monumental Petrovaradin Fortress on the Danube River, famous today as the venue of the EXIT music festival. Later on, we will visit the Fruška Gora National Park and Krušedol Monastery, one of the baroque-style Orthodox churches in Vojvodina. Finally, our destination is Sremski Karlovci, a historical and architectural bijou, home of wine and poets, where we get to visit a winery and taste no less than seven types of wine.
